Judging
Beer tasting awards
Judging will be carried out on 2 consecutive days
Day 1 - All beers are tasted by a panel of judges which will rate all entrants within each class. The beers with the highest scores will go through to the super jury stage on day 2
Day 2 - A smaller super jury panel will award the higher medals, trophies for the overall winner of each class and the supreme champion. In addition, the judges may award special prizes at their discretion
In 2009 there was a truly international judging panel of 40 experts representing brewers, agencies, retailers, journalists and beer writers. Super Jurists last year included internationally-known beer journalist Roger Protz and Josef Tolar, former brewmaster at Budweiser Budvar.
Design & Packaging awards
The Design & Packaging judging panel will include marketing experts, retailers, buyers, journalists and packaging & design professionals.
We are delighted to welcome Jeff Evans again this year as Chairman of Judges. Jeff is an award-winning, internationally-published beer writer and is seen as the leading authority on bottle-conditioned ales. He has written and edited eight editions of CAMRA’s best-selling Good Beer Guide and seven editions of CAMRA’s Good Bottled Beer Guide. Jeff edits the www.insidebeer.com website. He writes regularly for various magazines and newspapers, and has been voted Beer Writer of the Year.
As Chairman, Jeff acts as a conduit to the other judges. He will oversee the judging days, set out the tasting and packaging guidelines as well as offering an expert insight into many of the beers that have entered. Jeff will of course also chair the Super Jury judging panel.
Accompanying Jeff will be a range of expert judges including former brewers, beer buyers, independent beer retailers and beer enthusiasts such as writers and broadcasters. Several of the judges will be selected for the super jury panel.
The Design & Packaging judging panel will include marketing experts, retailers, buyers, journalists and packaging & design professionals.
