Welcome to the International Beer Challenge 2014
For 18 years the International Beer Challenge has rewarded and promoted excellent beers.
The whole rainbow of beer complexity enters the IBC, with entries received from no fewer than 30 countries, including acknowledged brewing heartlands and representations from advancing beer countries.
Judges include some of the shrewdest beer judges in the land – retailers, importers, publicans, brewers, writers and flavour analysts. Add in some highly experienced judges from continental Europe to make sure we have an even better spread of tasting experience.
Judges study each beer in turn, considering the appearance, the aroma, the taste and the finish, before discussing their findings with other table members and reaching a consensus on which medal to award. The level of knowledge and experience of the judges is striking and, for a beer to achieve any kind of medal from such exacting critics is a real achievement.
This year the tasting judges clearly found plenty to enjoy, awarding 170 bronze medals and 103 silver medals and 30 gold medals. Going beyond gold, the IBC also presents trophies for the best class winners and the Supreme Champion beer.
A separate panel of design experts also awarded awarding 18 Bronze, 22 Silver and 6 Gold medals for the best in design and packaging and new for 2014, we awarded the brewers, retailers and importers who had performed the best across the board in the competition.
Rewarding quality, celebrating excellence.
Being part of the IBC carries a number of significant benefits. It acknowledges the skill of the brewer, and is an internationally recognised symbol of quality frequently displayed on bottle labels.
The International Beer Challenge awards Gold, Silver & Bronze awards with the highest scoring beer in each of 7 categories being awarded the category trophy. From these beers a supreme champion will be selected.
